Request to Treasury for report and recommendations on Eskom’s coal power plants

On 17 October 2023, the CER submitted a PAIA request to National Treasury requesting a copy of a report that German consultancy called Vgbe prepared for for it on the operational situation of Eskom’s coal plants and its recommendations.
National Treasury responded on 30 October 2023 “deferring” their response to our PAIA request until the report has been presented to Parliament. CER wrote back to National Treasury on 31 October requesting immediate access to the records on public interest grounds as well as reasons for the deferral of the request.
After receiving no response to its previous letter, CER sent a follow-up letter to National Treasury on 14 December 2023 requesting a clarification of its decision on the CER’s PAIA request.
